One of Mount Vernon Mills' guiding business philosophies is that the interests of the stockholders, the employees, and the communities - of which each plant is a part - are equal. Because of this, no one interest is any more important than any other in the total company equation. It is therefore incumbent upon all to work together in harmony, because each is so closely tied.
Mount Vernon Mills’ efforts to be an exemplary corporate citizen do not stop there. We are very committed to sustainability and social compliance. As shown under the Eco Excellence Program link on our home page, protecting our natural resources is important to us. Our products meet today’s global demand for environmental excellence, minimizing the impact to the ecosystem while also minimizing if not eliminating risk to the end user. We also work hard to provide a safe and healthful workplace. This is not just for our facilities, but throughout our supply chain.
Mount Vernon Mills actively participates in a number of social compliance and sustainability programs offered by our customers, the apparel industry and other organizations. Our foreign suppliers must agree to meet the conditions of these programs before they can do business with us. They must agree to (1) provide decent working conditions for their employees; (2) not use slave labor, child labor, prison labor or otherwise engage in human trafficking; and (3) promote good environmental stewardship. And we check on them. Not only do we have our own team of trained auditors, but we also use independent agencies to evaluate compliance as well. Plus, many of our customers conduct their own audits of our supply chain. Inspections are both announced and unannounced.
