Mount Vernon Transportation

Smith & Waters operates a fleet of about 120 over-the-road tractors and over 500 trailers. Tractors include late model Peterbilts, Internationals, and Freightliners. Trailers are mostly 53 foot box trailers, with some 48 foot box. Smith & Waters also has flatbed trailers available, plus several dry bulk and wet tankers. Trucks are dispatched from two terminals, in Ware Shoals, South Carolina and Sylacauga, Alabama. The Sylacauga operation is also known as Avondale Trucking.
Loads are dispatched and tracked using TMW software and other proprietary systems, which provide quick verification of a shipment’s status. Each terminal has its own in-house maintenance shop to handle most repairs, and service vehicles are available 24/7 to respond to most problems arising out on the road. All drivers have at least three years of commercial driving experience, and are required to maintain safe driving records. Accidents and out-of-service incidents are among the lowest in the industry.
The Sylacauga terminal is the result of the July 2006 acquisition of the transportation business of Avondale Mills, Inc. This acquisition enabled Smith & Waters to double the size of its fleet and to dramatically increase its capability to handle outside customer needs in the Southeastern U.S. and adjacent areas. Smith & Waters now offers daily access from the Carolinas to Texas and all points in between. For excellent delivery service at competitive prices, Smith & Waters is the answer.
