Mount Vernon Shares its Advanced Technology Experience in Feature Article
The world’s largest indigo denim plant is now operating the world’s first major installation of 35 Rieter ultra high speed C-60 Cards, along with 56 other related advanced blow room machines. Mount Vernon Mills' Trion, Georgia plant continues to operate under the Company’s quality standard banner: “Passion For Perfection”. President Roger W. Chastain says, “this multi-million dollar installation is part of our Company wide, continuous capital improvement programs that keep us world-class in manufacturing technology. Our commitment is to be the supplier of choice by our customer. Trion is an example of what we do to meet and exceed customer demands for consistent fabric quality-yard after yard after yard”.
The well known and respected textile editor McAlister (Mac) Isaacs (who writes for a Switzerland based International Textile Bulletin named Zurich) visited the 1.1 million square foot denim behemoth to report first hand on this “break-through” technology. Here are quote highlights from ITB: “Mount Vernon is always in search of ways to improve”. “Operating at the unheard of speed of 350 lbs per hour the sliver quality has enabled the plant to eliminate the two-process drawing previously employed”. Don Henderson (VP Denim Manufacturing): “What we have is more consistency. We have better uniformity in our stop levels. We’ve reduced our breaks or laps in slashing by 25%”. “Each C-60 is equipped with a digital short-term leveling system. Working width of the Card is 1500 mm”. Robert Taylor (Yarn Mill Superintendent) says, “One key to the outstanding quality is the monitoring system that looks at every inch of sliver - as it is being produced”.
